Human Intelligence
Human intelligence is an extraordinary miracle of nature and the cosmos.
Our bodies and capacities of the human mind have evolved with such resilience, adaptiveness and inventiveness that we have become the apex species on Earth. Our intelligence has created extraordinary achievements in science, arts, technology, spirituality, culture and civilization. Human intelligence also has a problem. We have been using our mental capabilities with such aggressiveness against each other and against our environment that we have brought human development to the brink of self destruction. We are threatening each other with thermonuclear weapons, tariffs and trade wars. Geostrategic rivalries and social polarization are rife around the world. We are savaging our planetary ecology without mercy. We have broken through virtually every planetary boundary and tipping point. In the process, we have been living with a narrative inconsistent with who we are as a species. We are creating immense moral and consciousness injury to a point that we are unable to recognise who we truly are and to see all that is good in the world.
Human intelligence is locked in a worldview that understands Nature and the Cosmos as inert and lifeless, mere chemical reactions governed by random selection. Our scientific paradigm gives little credence to consciousness and limits all knowledge to what can be measured and replicated. Because we give no value to Nature, we give ourselves permission to create a world in which a million species are on the endangered species list with hundreds going extinct every day. At virtually every level, our world is in distress and approaching dysfunction. We are experiencing global spiritual malnutrition commensurate with our destruction of the global planetary ecology. Human intelligence has created a cascade of crises of our own making.
